Wave — Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Wave, an iOS app operated by Wendell Kang ("we"). By creating an account or using the app you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Wave.
1. Eligibility
Wave is exclusively for current UC Berkeley students with a valid
@berkeley.edu or @student.berkeley.edu email address. You must be at
least 18 years old. One account per person;
accounts are personal and may not be shared or transferred.
2. Your content
You own the posts, messages, and photos you create. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, display, and transmit that content solely to operate the service (for example, showing your post to nearby students). This license ends when your content or account is deleted, except for the minimal safety records described in the Privacy Policy.
3. Community rules — zero tolerance for abuse
Wave exists to help students meet safely. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. You agree not to:
- harass, threaten, stalk, or intimidate anyone, on or off the app;
- post content that is hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, violent, or illegal;
- impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or affiliation;
- spam, advertise, or solicit;
- use the app for dating-app-style solicitation, commercial activity, or anything other than genuine in-person meetups;
- attempt to access other users' private data, circumvent verification, rate limits, or other technical protections, or interfere with the service.
Every user can report any post, message, or user and block any user from within the app. We review reports and may remove content, suspend, or permanently ban accounts at our sole discretion, with or without notice. Blocking a user immediately ends any active meetup between you.
4. Meeting in person — your responsibility
Wave facilitates real-world meetings between students. You alone are responsible for your interactions with other users. We do not conduct background checks. Use good judgment: meet in public campus locations, tell a friend, and trust your instincts. We are not responsible for the conduct of any user, online or offline.
5. Location
By posting, you consent to your approximate location being shown to nearby verified students, and to your exact post location being shared with a person whose wave you accept for the duration of that meetup, as described in the Privacy Policy.
6. Termination
You may stop using Wave or delete your account at any time (Settings → account → delete account). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or put the community at risk.
7. Disclaimers
Wave is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any meetup will occur or go well. Wave is an independent student project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the University of California, Berkeley.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss or harm arising from your use of the app or your interactions with other users. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed fifty US dollars (US$50).
9. Changes
We may update these terms; the effective date above will change and material updates will be communicated in the app. Continuing to use Wave after a change means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict of law rules.
